Often, I read statements that directly or indirectly imply that Nigeria wasn’t due for decolonization/independence, Nigeria needs to be recognized, and that Nigeria is better colonized than independent.
My thought is if Nigeria had set a milestone before her quest for independence from the British, pursued these visions, and met them, the citizens won’t be questioning the need for their independence, if not their existence as a country.
So, I ask, has Nigeria achieved the purpose leading to her independence?
I have come to realize that Nigeria's quest for independence is not different from Hausa, Yoruba, or Igbo's quest to rule Nigeria. There is no valid or defined patriotic purpose for Nigeria's independence, although there should be.
