Do it. Keep it away — in another room, out of sight, out of mind. Next — take your laptop and any other electronic device you might have, and keep it in the other room. Done? Perfect. Next, lock your room. Turn off the fan. Close all your windows so you eliminate noise. Now just sit. Watch as the seconds turn to minutes. Watch how ten minutes — so little time — something that passes away so quickly when you’re on social media — feels like an eternity. Do you hear that? That’s silence. Deafening silence. Unbearable silence. Unshakable silence. Silence — that forces you to face all you hide from, all you run from. Just you — and your thoughts. Isn’t it unbearable? Don’t you want nothing more than for it to stop? For it to end? To go back to your usual life? To get your hands back to doing something? Anything, but this? That’s just how it feels when you have no one to share what you’re going through with. That’s how the lonely of the world feel. So much to talk about — so many thoughts — but no one to distract them from any of it. Next time you call someone a weirdo, remember this. Next time you brush away someone’s pain, remember this. Next time you call someone a bewda, remember this. Next time you ask someone to man up, remember this. Believe me — remember this moment — and you’ll learn to be kinder to the world around you. 1 Reply Share Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Amina Zinab Nigeria 8 Questions 19 Answers 1 Best Answers 432 Points View Profile Amina Zinab Added an answer on May 14, 2019 at 9:47 pm Install a Chrome extension, called Self Control. Set it for 2 hours and manually put in the websites that distract you. Be it PornHub, YouTube or Quora, Nibernet ,you won’t be able to access them temporarily. Go to Udemy and buy a course that revolves around the topic of your interest, worry or concern. Be it calculus, programming, social psychology, or quantum physics and have a blast for 2 hours. Aim for this pretty damn effective concentration cycle: light concentration (first 5 min), moderate concentration (next 5 min), deep concentration (40 min), and study break (10 min). Make it a habit. 2 hours per day. Every single day. No excuses. You’ll thank me in a month because it will be life, if not career changing.
