I feel that Russia and other foreign nations have a hand in the coups in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. We saw that in Lybia when the West came in disguise as if it was on a humanitarian mission.

A tweet by D. H Bwala (@BwalaDaniel) comes in handy. “This proxy war that ECOWAS wants to go into will benefit Russia and NATO. Totally avoidable; Why allow the West to use African soil as the battleground for the scramble for Africa’s natural resources? At the moment, they buy our resources because, under the international convention on War and Peace, they have no right to invade any of Africa’s territory without invitation; but during the war, they can, based on the various agreements they have with ECOWAS member states which led to the presence of their military bases in various African countries in the first place. Soon as the conflict starts, they take over oil fields and ancillaries where they would pretend to recover the money for either their supplies of arms or active war assistance. Once the conflicts start, they would ensure the war in Africa escalates and take hydra-headed dimensions. Once the war starts there would be no development, active trade activities and above all peace. I humbly beg President Tinubu to avoid the militarization of diplomacy in other to avoid predictable consequences.” (Tweet is edited)

NATO’s invasion in Libya was a brutal assault disguised as a humanitarian outreach. It had nothing to do with humanitarian reasons. It was a gold heist. Who knows what Russia seeks in these countries?
Gaddafi’s plan to introduce the ‘Gold Dinar’ took the power elites by surprise and they felt threatened. He was to stop selling oil for the US dollars. Guess who was affected? The United States.
Any such move would have pissed off the power elite who controls the organizations like WTO, IMF and World Bank. Let’s face the fact that Gold-backed currency is the true currency any day and with the rich Libyan reserves, the implementation would have strengthened the whole of Africa.
The other worried soul was Nicolas Sarkozy who did not want Libya to break away from French monetary domination.
So, under the guise of protecting ‘humanitarian interest’, a gold heist was planned. Saddam Hussein in Iraq suffered a similar fate after he announced his country’s oil would be sold in euros and not in dollars. Guess what followed next? The United States suddenly became concerned about Iraq. Sanctions and then invasion followed. Coincidence?
If the reasons were humanitarian, what have they done in the countries like Syria, Belarus, Cuba, Uzbekistan, Sudan etc. People in these countries are worse off than those who were in Iraq and Libya.
Coming back to the question- there is a new struggle for Africa. Russia has the upper hand as it struggles for power and dominance. Africa should celebrate much yet but should be careful in their negotiations.

Looking closely, the efforts of France and the US to counter the coup in Niger and the efforts of Russia to sustain the coup points to their interest in the West African nation. The same interest calls for their influence for or against the coup.
Therefore, it is convincing that foreign countries are influencing the coup in Niger while using Nigeria and Ecowas as pawns.
